Patty B.

I’m a 30-something single Mormon woman who believes very much some of the LDS Church’s teachings and disbelieves others.  I’ve never been married, I have no children–in other words, I’ve failed at being a good Mormon woman (please read a certain amount of cynical sarcasm in that).  Instead, I’ve succeed at getting a great education, building an amazing circle of friends, and developing a fabulous career.  Given the nature of this blog, I’ll be open with the fact that I no longer subscribe to the Church’s conception of “chastity,” but have instead given myself the freedom to pursue relationships as far as it feels right to do so in every regard, including sexually.  That makes for occupying an interesting space as a Mormon and I’m excited to participate here where there’s some openness to talk honestly about sex and relationships.

Patty Bartlett Sessions was one of the women married to Joseph Smith while married to her first husband, too.  She was also a prominent midwife in the 19th century Mormon community.  She kept a daily journal for 20 years and a less regular journal for another 20 years, which have been important historical records. Her daughter Sylvia Sessions Lyon was also married to Joseph Smith, so Patty B and Sylvia L are both mother and daughter and sister wives.
